Yapı Kredi Kazım Taşkent Art Gallery

Yapı Kredi Bank has always believed in investing in culture and the arts and has taken important steps with its endeavours in these areas to help our country reach a higher level of modernity.

Born in Preveza in 1894, Kazım Taşkent witnessed some of the fundamental transformations brought about by the modern age right up until he passed away in 1991. Following his graduate studies in chemistry in Germany on a state scholarship, he played an important role in establishing the Alpullu Sugar Company in 1926 and founded the Doğan Sigorta Şirketi (Doğan Insurance Company) and Yapı Kredi in 1944. Kazım Taşkent, who also served as a member of parliament, said: “Man must follow the traces in his path, leaving behind traces of himself”, a motto he strictly adhered to all of his life. He contributed greatly to our country’s culture and the arts through Yapı Kredi and continued his wide range of social activities from publishing magazines, such as Doğan Kardeş, to opening exhibitions, organizing song contests and staging folk dancing shows, even during the last few days of his life.

Kazım Taşkent’s eponymous art gallery is the only gallery in Turkey to have continuously hosted exhibitions since its inauguration in 1964. And since 1992, among these have been informative exhibitions of contemporary Turkish artists and collective exhibitions of classical masters.

In addition to activities around particular themes, the Yapı Kredi Kazım Taşkent Art Gallery also sponsors activities to promote universal interaction in plastic arts through exhibitions from abroad. An appraisal service and a promotional book are provided for every artist who has an exhibition at the Kazım Taşkent Gallery.
