Afife Theater Awards
Yapı Kredi Afife Theater Awards is an annual event organized in memory of Afife Jale, the first Muslim stage actress of Turkey. The event has been organized since 1997 with the consulting help of Yapı Kredi's Haldun Dormen. One of Turkey's most prestigious awards for arts and culture, the Afife Theater Awards marks their 17th year this year.
A widely-anticipated event in the world of performance and theater, the awards were presented at a spectacular ceremony held at Haliç Congress Center on April 29, 2013. The Best Production of the Year Award went to "Sessizlik (Silence)," the Best Actress Award to Sumru Yavrucuk for her role in "Kimsenin Ölmediği Bir Günün Ertesiydi (After the Day Nobody Died)" and the Best Actor Award to Öner Erkan for his role in "Babamın Cesetleri (The Corpses of My Father)." The Yapı Kredi Special Award went to the famous Turkish author and playwright, Adalet Ağaoğlu.
This year, before the start of the awards ceremony, each member of the 33 member jury went in front of the lens of photographer Mehmet Turgut.
Members of the jury, who wore theatrical make-up, sat for the camera to have portraits done, reflecting the power of theater to bring emotions to life. The portraits were exhibited during the night of the awards ceremony. The photo shoot took three days to complete and all of the photographs taken are shared with theater enthusiasts at www.afife.org
