Protection of Natural Life

Minding the web of life created by biological diversity, the well-being of all humanity is closely tied to a healthy environment. However, the linear economic model based on mass production technologies and resource consumption that emerged with the Industrial Revolution continues to affect natural life.

At Yapı Kredi, we know that a better future is only possible with economic, social and environmental sustainability, and we work hard for a sustainable future that is friendly to humans and nature. We make sure to use natural resources in the most efficient way possible in order to leave future generations a livable world. We act under the leadership of the Environmental Board of Koç Group, made up of environmental managers of Koç Group companies as the highest decision-making authority in environmental management, and we undertake major projects by considering the expectations of society and the needs of future generations.

While we strive for the efficient use of resources, we also lead the efforts that support the protection of nature. We have planted hundreds of thousands of saplings in different regions of Turkey to protect and preserve nature. In addition to the projects we carry out within our own organization, we also undertake different projects with the institutions we collaborate with.

From 2014 to 2019, we supported the Turkey's Life Small Grant Program established by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness of biological diversity in our country, and to raise funds for projects developed for the protection of our natural values. With this program, we offered both financial and scientific support to the projects of local non-governmental organizations working for the protection of local species facing extinction.

We believe that we can create an ecological balance by saving natural resources, which is why we are reducing our waste to zero for the future of our planet. As part of the Zero Waste Project, in which we contribute to a sustainable world, we carry out efforts for efficient use of limited natural resources, prevention of waste, separation of waste at source, and waste reduction at all our facilities. Thanks to our efforts, we were granted Zero Waste Certificates from the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization for our Yapı Kredi Banking Base and Head Office.

Just as in every other area, we use technology to the fullest for the protection of natural resources. We carry out activities to reduce paper consumption by transforming our business processes with digitalization, and we reduce our environmental impact by digitalizing various individual and corporate transactions with our pioneering efforts in digital banking.
