Environmental Management System

For a sustainable environment, in 2016, Yapı Kredi established an Environmental Management System (EMS) at its Head Office buildings Yapı Kredi Plaza D Block and the Yapı Kredi Banking Base, and obtained ISO 14001:2015 certification. The Bank has successfully completed the periodic audit in 2018, and still holds this certification. Furthermore, as part of its environmental goals, in 2018, the Bank extended the scope of the EMS to its domestic subsidiaries and successfully completed ISO 14001 certification.

Yapı Kredi’s EMS aims to ensure compliance with the Bank’s environmental policy, achieve the Bank’s environmental targets, and sustain the organization’s performance in this regard. The system is compatible with the ISO 14001:2015 standards as well as international and national legal requirements. Based on continuous development, the system features a cycle of “Plan - Do - Check - Act”.

In order to ensure the efficiency of EMS, roles and responsibilities within the system, as well as job definitions, have been defined and communicated to employees. An EMS Team has been formed to improve performance and to follow up on practices and procedures. The job definitions of this team’s members have been expanded to include their responsibilities within the scope of the EMS, and the changes have been announced to the staff.

EMS defines environmental goals and targets on an annual basis. These are reviewed at managerial review meetings every six months, and evaluated at the end of each year. The main purpose of the managerial review process is to evaluate annual performance of EMS, monitor its in-practice efficiency, and ensure its continuous improvement. Senior management provides support for the managerial review activities. At senior management level, the Logistics and Procurement Group Director, who reports directly to the Executive Director and Deputy CEO, is responsible for EMS.

Yapı Kredi’s constantly improves the efficiency of EMS by assessing its impact in terms of:

  • The Environmental and Social Policy,
  • Environmental goals and targets,
  • Internal audit results,
  • Systemic data analyses,
  • Corrective - preventive actions,
  • Managerial review results.

Training programs are provided for all employees in order to raise awareness and provide information on the system. Employees responsible for environment-related tasks also receive training in order to develop their competences and to increase their knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, the Bank conducts internal communication efforts aimed at raising awareness among the employees.
