"Infinite Blue" Project with Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association

The “Infinite Blue” project, carried out by Yapı Kredi and TURMEPA (Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association), advocates the protection of Turkey’s natural resources as an indispensible mission and seeks to raise the awareness of elementary and high school students for safeguarding these resources.

Training sessions are conducted in two phases: first to teachers; then to students. During its 5-year span, this project has targeted reaching 300,000 teachers and over 6.5 million students at regional pilot schools. Since the beginning of the project, we have trained 10.395 teachers and 3.500.000 students in 5.861 schools.

Yapi Kredi created a volunteer team called “Infinite Blue Volunteers” in 2009. 119 Yapi Kredi employees from 21 different cities of Turkey have been working for creating awareness about environment in their cities (enviromental cleanup days etc)

Recently, Ata Özer, Director of National Education for Istanbul Province, Tezcan Yaramancı, Chairman of the Board of Directors at TURMEPA, and Faik Açıkalın, Executive Director and General Manager of Yapı Kredi met to celebrate the enrolment of the three-millionth student in the project. Yapı Kredi has been supporting the Endless Blue program for three years, stated Executive Director and General Manager Mr. Açıkalın and said that “Yapı Kredi sees protecting the country’s national resources as one of its key missions. We are thrilled to be participating in the Endless Blue program, which aims to increase awareness among the nation’s youth – our future – of the tremendous threat to our planet from environmental pollution. We believe that sustainable development can be achieved only through environmental awareness and responsibility. Our goal is to have 6.6 million students participate in the Endless Blue program. I would like to extend special thanks to TURMEPA and the Ministry of National Education for their belief in and support of this program, and for the important role they played in running it. Yapı Kredi not only provides corporate support to TURMEPA but is also happily involved in such campaigns as cleaning our country’s shores with an army of volunteers made up of our employees.”
