The “Afife Theater Awards”, which has been organized since 1997 on annual basis and considered among the most prestigious art awards given in Turkey, has been distributed by Yapı Kredi Insurance in order to ensure that Turkish theater lives freely and is regularly supported. The award has become a significant cultural activity in our country as an encouragement of the art and the artist, as well as recognition of the individual success of the artists who won the award. The awards are given in memory of Afife Jale, who could not experience such an incentive and support while she was alive, as a statement of the respect, of which development and strength is desired in our society.
The 15th Yapi Kredi Afife Theatre Awards, an event which has evolved into a traditional annual affair, was held in the Lutfi Kirdar Convention & Exhibition on Monday, April 18, 2011. Winners in 14 categories were presented with trophies at the ceremony. Korhan Abay was the host of the event, and a special performance by Tan Sağtürk added color to the proceedings.
Faik Açıkalın, CEO of Yapı Kredi gave the opening speech. He pointed out that Yapı Kredi has always been a pioneer in providing comprehensive corporate support for cultural and artistic events in Turkey.
Açıkalın went on to say, "As an institution that has always strived to involve itself in every facet of people’s lives for the past 67 years, Yapı Kredi regards the Afife Theatre Awards as something very special.
The Afife Theatre Awards have been an ongoing phenomenon for 15 years. The awards ceremony has evolved into a well-respected event, esteemed in theatrical circles. It is a reflection of Yapı Kredi's visionary approach to the field of culture and the arts. We will continue to support Yapı Kredi Afife Theatre Awards by providing assistance every year, as a token of our genuine and sincere interest.”
A book entitled "Those Honored by an Award" is a collection of stories that appeared on bookshelves April, 2011. The book relates stories concerning the 14 stage productions and 191 theatrical artists who have received awards at the Yapı Kredi Afife Theatre Awards. A copy of the book was presented to the actors who participated in the awards ceremony.
